Another Blue at almost 4 yrs. old!

AuSable Valley's Ascent has exquisite fleece and solid conformation with very nice head style & full coverage. His fleece is crimpy and soft with lots of staple and bundling. Skin biopsy results from Dr Norm Evans showed well above average density of 58.75 follicles/sq mm, a very high secondary to primary ratio of 10.2 to 1, and a “better than exceptional” variation of secondary to primary fibers of only 4.6 micron!

The real measure of a male is his get. And Ascent has now shown that he can produce the quality offspring that sets a male apart! Ascent has a number of cria on the ground. His first show age cria has been shown 8 times and has won 8 blues & 3 banners so far! One of his latest cria is a silver gray female with super nice fleece out of a gray dam.

At almost 4 yrs old & the oldest alpaca in the show, Ascent won his 6th blue ribbon at the Southern Select Show 2010! He was again considered for the championship.

And in 2011 at 5+ years old he won his 7th blue AND the Color Championship at the Royal Alpaca Challenge in GA. In awarding the color championship banner judge Nick Harrington-Smith said “I have not seen a male at 5+ years of age with this amount of fineness, crimp, conformation, and handle!!!” He added “when we breed our alpacas, we are looking for a true sire like this male that maintains these qualities for as many years!”

The judge also commented that his reasoning for his placement of Ascent in 1st over the 2nd place male "was primarily due to the fact that Ascent was twice the age of the 2nd place winner, but had twice the fineness, crimp, and density...along with his conformation."

The judge finished with, "An all-around perfect specimen in my opinion."

Ascent started his show career with 5 blue ribbons & a banner in his first five shows. Judge's comments: Vandenbosch said "soft handle, nice character, good density, perfect conformation. McCloud commented: Ascent had good overall size development for his age and considerable testicular development. She appreciated his strong frame and correctness & that he was "packing lots of fleece with impressive staple, even character and fineness" Timmerman said "I was impressed by all aspects of this boy, he is put together very well, perfect form, proportions are correct, substance of bone, bite, a stunning male with stunning fleece carrying softness, brightness, excellent crimp and excellent length of staple, very even fleece characteristics across the body."

Ascent was awarded a blue at VT. He was in VERY close consideration for the reserve championship. Judge Burhman commented that she wished she could have given two reserves because he is such a nice male".

Ascent won his 5th blue in 5 tries at the 2007 NJ show and topped off the year with a R Color Championship! Barboza: "well packaged, flawless conformation, nice combination of staple length, density and uniform character throughout his fleece, incredibly soft handle and great brightness."
